CBD vs CBG
CBD vs CBG
It seems that every day there is a new cannabis product or brand on the market. We’ve seen CBD ice cream, cannabis-infused cosmetics and even weed cologne. As the industry continues to see new innovations, one cannabis compound that has gotten a lot of attention in recent months is CBG. What are the differences in CBD vs CBG and what are the known benefits? Let's break it down:
What is the difference between CBD and CBG, and what are the known benefits?
CBD is the abbreviation for cannabidiol. It is a non-intoxicating natural compound extracted from the cannabis sativa (hemp) plant that works with your Endocannabinoid system to help optimize psychological and physiological functions. In the medical context, CBD is used for treating severe forms of epilepsy. Further research on CBD is ongoing and focussing on anxiety management, reducing inflammation, promoting sleep, regulating mood and as an antidepressant.
CBG is the abbreviation for cannabigerol. It is similar to CBD in that it’s also a non-intoxicating cannabis compound. There is ongoing research on its promising effects on humans and the distinct clinical uses. Research is focussing on whether CBG supports blood pressure regulation, pain management, reducing inflammation, has antidepressant qualities, with bone growth and repair, oncology and combating glaucoma.
Recognized as safe by the World Health Organization, both CBD and CBG are non-toxic, non-intoxicating and non-addictive. As there is no high with either compound there is no evidence of any public health related problems. Full spectrum products containing CBD and CBG also offer the additional boosted therapeutic effect often referred to as minor cannabinoids, CBD and CBG are far from being minor in their potential.
Is CBD better than CBG?
Is CBD better than CBG? Both compounds have incredible potential as therapeutic agents. It all comes down to the results you are seeking.
oHHo products contain relatively low levels of CBG as our plant genetics have been bred for their abundance of CBD. Very few cannabis strains contain high levels of CBG which makes it harder to come by. There are, however, a few pioneering farmers who are producing high CBG yields and there is definite potential for the compound to equal the potential of CBD.
